Our Work in Action

The Braintree Community Partnership on Substance Use is dedicated to building a healthier and safer community through prevention, education, and collaboration. Below are some of the projects and initiatives we have recently launched or participated in. These efforts demonstrate our ongoing commitment to supporting youth, families, and local organizations in making positive choices.

International Overdose Awareness Day

Each year, we join communities around the world to remember those we’ve lost to overdose and support those still grieving for an International Overdose Awareness Day Ceremony . This day reminds us that no one is ever alone—and that remembrance, compassion, and action can transform grief into hope.

Community Heroes Awards Banquet

Every September, Mayor Erin Joyce warmly invites all Substance Use Prevention (SVP) members and community partners to Town Hall for our Annual Community Heroes Awards Banquet for Prevention and Recovery.

This special evening honors individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to prevention and recovery efforts at both the local and state levels.

Recovery Month Celebration

Each September, the Braintree Community Partnership proudly recognizes National Recovery Month, joining communities nationwide to celebrate the power of recovery and to support individuals and families affected by substance use. Our Recovery Tree, planted years ago beside the Recovery Rock, stands as a living symbol of hope, healing, and resilience. Every September, community members come together to decorate the tree with names, recovery dates, and inspiring messages—honoring the strength of those in recovery and the loved ones who support them. This annual tradition reminds us that recovery is possible, connection is powerful, and every story of healing deserves to be celebrated.

Red Ribbon Week

Each October, the Braintree Community Partnership on Substance Use proudly celebrates Red Ribbon Week—the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign, promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles for youth and families.

As part of this annual tradition, our Partnership hosts engaging third-grade classroom programs across Braintree’s elementary schools. Students enjoy a reading of The Red Ribbon: A Story of Hope, followed by a hands-on craft activity that reinforces messages of hope, kindness, and resilience.

In collaboration with the Thayer Public Library, we also offer a community-wide Red Ribbon Week event, ensuring that children of all ages can participate.

Sticker Shock Campaign

During Thanksgiving week, the Partnership teams up with high school students to place warning stickers on alcohol and take-out packages in local liquor stores and restaurants. This annual campaign reminds adults about the risks and consequences of providing alcohol to minors, especially during the holiday season.
